Music download service eMusic has announced that it now offers audiobooks to its subscribers. It’s also providing a new open source application to make it easier to add eMusic content to your iTunes and iPod.
eMusic is a subscription-based music download service that offers users MP3-encoded audio files not encumbered with any digital rights management (DRM) encryption. The service features more than 3 million tracks and focuses on independent music labels and artists, crossing almost all genres. eMusic calls itself the second-largest music download service behind the iTunes Store.
Ordinarily, Mac users with eMusic accounts download song files or albums they want, then manually drag that content into iTunes to add it to their library. eMusic Remote is a helper application designed to assist with that task. It’s built on top of Mozilla’s XULRunner technology.
When installing eMusic Remote, you tell it where your My eMusic folder is and which music playing software you’re using; the player automatically adds subsequent eMusic downloads to the library. You also gain the ability to browse the eMusic site, so you no longer have to use eMusic Download Manager and the eMusic Web site in a separate window.
