Sling Media announced on Tuesday that it has been acquired by EchoStar, owner of the Dish Network satellite network. The deal, valued at $380 million, will be paid in cash and EchoStar options.
Sling Media is best known for its Slingbox and SlingPlayer. The Slingbox allows you to watch your home television from anywhere with a fast Internet connection. Sling Media’s products are currently sold in 5,000 retail stores in 11 countries.
“With today’s increasingly mobile lifestyle, EchoStar’s acquisition of Sling Media will allow us to offer innovative and convenient ways for our customers to enjoy their programming on more displays and locations, including TVs, computers and mobile phones, both inside and outside of the home,” said Charlie Ergen, CEO and co-founder of EchoStar.
The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions — the deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2007.
