Synium Software has announced a public beta test release of MacFamilyTree 5, a major new release of their genealogy software for Mac OS X. MacFamilyTree costs $49.
MacFamilyTree assists users who want to create and maintain family trees — visual representations of family histories.
This new version is a ground-up rewrite that features a faster database engine and a new user interface. It’s been made compatible with Apple’s forthcoming Leopard (Mac OS X v10.5) operating system, too.
Other new features include a “Family Assistant” that dynamically guides you through the process of creating a family tree; the ability to visualize a family tree through time and space using a “virtual globe,” support for a free, integrated Web hosting service, user-selectable themes, .Mac integration, compatibility with the GEDCOM genealogy data format and more.
MacFamilyTree 5 requires Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later, ATI Radeon 7500 or Nvidia GeForce 4 graphics or better and 16MB VRAM. The software is a Universal binary.
