If you use your iPhone to send text messages to friends and coworkers and you’d like an easy way to archive them on your Mac, Micromat has introduced Syphone, a utility that does just that. It’s available for free, and currently it’s in beta form.
Syphone does not alter the iPhone in any way, so you don’t need to worry about the software “bricking” your iPhone. It installs on the Mac, and lets you view, save and back up SMS messages on your iPhone.
You can archive SMS messages, import and export them, view them offline using an iChat-style interface with customizable colors, open contact information in your Address Book, view the number of sent and received messages for each contact and work with multiple iPhones if necessary.
The iPhone limits the number of SMS messages it will store, so this will come in handy for people who want to keep a regular archive of their SMS messages, according to Micromat.
