Apple officially added another country to the iPhone’s European roll-out Tuesday when it confirmed that France Telecom’s Orange wireless service would be the exclusive carrier for the mobile device in France.
Apple’s announcement confirms an earlier pronouncement from France Telecom CEO Didier Lombard, who had indicated his company’s wireless arm would be the iPhone’s service provider at a September telecommunications conference in Hanoi. Lombard had remained mum on other details, however, such as the iPhone’s release date and price in France.
Apple filled in those details Tuesday. The 8GB phone will sell for €399 in France—the same price it will sell for in Germany. However, French shoppers will have to wait a few weeks longer than their German counterparts. While the iPhone debuts in Germany on November 9, it arrives in France on November 29.
France will be the third European country to get the iPhone. In addition to Germany, the mobile device will also be available in the United Kingdom on November 9.
Apple plans to continue to introduce the iPhone across Europe throughout 2008; the company has also told analysts that the phone will make its debut in Asia sometime next year.
