Activision on Tuesday announced the release of a series of music compilations featuring hits from the Guitar Hero series of video games. Guitar Hero Essentials collects more than 1300 songs featured in the various games.
The tracks featured in the iTunes Essentials collection include nearly every song to appear in the Guitar Hero franchise, including the newest game: Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, which will be released for consoles on Oct. 28th and is coming to Mac and PC via Aspyr Media later this year.
iTunes Essential playlists include songs that can be found in Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Unlike most of the songs that appear in earlier games, however, these are the original versions recorded by the original artists. Tracks include songs from Aerosmith, Guns ‘N’ Roses, Rage Against the Machine, Metallic and other headliners.
What’s more, iTunes will offer guitar-themed playlists from Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols and Slash of Guns ‘N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver, so fans can download those famous musicians’ favorite songs, too.
