Acclivity, the US distributors of MYOB accounting software, and Sofa, makers of Checkout, a Mac-based Point of Sale (POS) system, have announced a new joint venture called Werck BV. The venture promised to expand Checkout’s presence in the Mac software market.
Acclivity will distribute Checkout in the U.S. and Canada under the MYOB brand, while Checkout will be sold under the newly formed Werck brand internationally. Both companies will work together to develop, market and support Checkout, according to a statement offered by both firms.
Checkout is designed for retailers who are looking to manage order entry, inventory management, customer information and vendor info. It’s designed to be a quick, easy-to-use system that takes only minutes to set up. A major update is coming to Checkout in early 2008 that will provide new features like multi-user access, accounting software integration and credit card processing.
Checkout requires Mac OS X v10.4.6 or later and is a Universal binary. It costs $399. Registered users will get the forthcoming 2.0 upgrade for free.
