Apple’s $79 iLife ’08 suite brought us many fantastic new features, and a few new bugs. Here’s how to tackle them.
Lost iWeb Content Have you installed any third-party add-ons (for example, Clarkwood Software’s $20 Multisite for iWeb 2.0 or Chad Brantly’s $13 iWeb Enhancer and $10 iComment ) to enhance the features of iLife’s iWeb? Be careful when updating to iWeb ’08. Apple confirms that part or all of your Web page content may be lost after updating. There’s no easy work-around here. The best you can do is make sure you have a back-up of your content before upgrading to the new version of iWeb.
iPhoto ’08 Can’t Read Media Card If the new version of iPhoto can’t read your Olympus digital camera’s xD card, the reason may be that there’s an incompatible movie file on the card. One solution is to install the Perian Project’s free Perian. This little QuickTime component adds support for many additional movie formats. Just drop it into your /Library/QuickTime folder and restart your computer. The camera’s memory card should now mount in the Finder.
iMovie ’08 Import Problem If you import video from your Panasonic AVCHD camcorder into iMovie ’08, you might be surprised that it appears stretched or distorted. The solution here is simple: Select Apple Menu -> Software Update and upgrade your copy of iMovie ’08 to version 7.1 or later.
