LANrev LP has announced LANrev 4.6, an update to its network lifecycle management software for Mac OS X and Windows networks. The new release is expected to ship before the end of November.
LANrev is aimed at network administrators and system managers who are responsible for managing heterogeneous networks of Macs and Windows computers. It comprises client, admin and server components, and enables net admins to handle client management — auditing connected systems, maintaining corporate compliance and updating them with new software.
New to LANrev 4.6 is support for Mac OS X v10.5 “Leopard.” LANrev can work with Leopard’s “Time Machine” persistent backup software, according to the developer — LANrev can be used to trigger manual backups and restores without requiring users to boot from a different volume. LANrev also centrally retrieves Time Machine information across the network, returning information such a backup snapshot lists, free space available and other information.
Administrators can also trigger a Time Machine backup to occur before installing new software, thus enabling them to “roll back” the Mac to the previous installation if any problems occur.
