AMD on Wednesday introduced the ATI TV Wonder 650 Combo USB, a $149 TV interface for Mac users. It’s scheduled to ship later this month at retailers throughout North America.
The device features two TV tuners — one for grabbing ATSC/HDTV broadcast signals, and one for recording analog television programming. It also features S-Video and composite video input.
The USB 2.0-equipped box ships with ATI’s tvPortal TV software for the Mac, which lets users watch, timeshift and record analog or HD television. The software features a built-in electronic programming guide so you can find the shows you want to watch, set up recording and watch later.
The TV Wonder 650 Combo USB sports on-board hardware MPEG-2 encoding capabilities and 2D and 3D comb filters for a sharp picture without lots of color artifacts. And while it’s shipping without ClearQAM capabilities, which would let it record unencrypted digital cable stations, AMD is promising to offer that in a software update for Mac users in the next few weeks.
