Smith Micro Software on Thursday announced that it has acquired Poser, Anime Studio and Manga Studio from e frontier. The deal was valued at $6 million in cash, and will happen immediately on the close of transaction.
Poser is 3D character design and animation software for artists, illustrators and animators. Anime Studio is a 2D animation application with vector graphics support, bone rigging animation tools, support for audio soundtracks and Adobe Photoshop integration. Manga Studio is manga and comic art software that helps artists produce ready-to-publish pages; it was originally developed in Japan as “ComicStudio.” All software runs on Mac OS X and Windows.
All three software applications have generated content add-ons; some also are available in pro packages with additional features.
Smith Micro Software is the owner of StuffIt, the once-ubiquitous archival and compression software, along with QuickLink mobility software. The company has diversified with acquisitions and other product releases; it’s focused on wireless, image and video applications.
