When last we met I outlined the steps for rolling back an iPod touch’s software from version 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 for the purposes of installing third-party- and iPhone applications. In that discussion I said that the iPhone’s Mail and Maps applications don’t work. I now know better.
Unlike the Stocks, Weather, and Notes applications, you can’t simply copy the iPhone’s Mail and Maps applications to the iPod touch’s Applications folder and expect them to work. You need a couple of support files to complete the process.
Specifically, if you want Maps to work you also have to copy the GMM.Framework file from the iPhone and place it in the same location on the iPod touch. That location is:
/System/Library/Frameworks/GMM.Framework
Mail will work if you add the MobileMailSettings.bundle to the iPod touch. It can be found here (and should be placed in the same location on the iPod touch):
/System/Library/PreferenceBundles/MobileMailSettings.bundle
Naturally you’ll need those files from a jail-broken iPhone running the version 1.1.1 software. For details on rolling back your iPod touch to version 1.1.1, see iPod touch 1.1.2 and back again.
Thanks to readers Skytalon and M for the inside dope.
