Axiom Audio on Monday introduced Audiobyte, a new “luxury” speaker system compatible with Macs, PCs iPods and other devices. It’s priced starting at $349.
The Audiobyte comprises two stereo speakers and an amplifier. There’s also an optional subwoofer. Each speaker is encased in Burled Walnut and is available in seven different finishes, including silver, charcoal, black or white matte-finish synthetic; or high-gloss synthetic cherry, burled walnut; or hand finished real-wood burled walnut underneath 12 coats of lacquer.
The amp delivers 55 watts per speaker and measures 5 x 5 x 12-3/8 inches. Speakers measure 6.5 x 5.5 x 4 inches, and contain a 1-inch titanium dome tweeter and 3-inch aluminum cone woofer. Axiom also offers a subwoofer in matte black, to match the amp.
The amp features a USB plug that can connect to an iPod with a docking cable; the iPod will charge its batteries and play music using the interface.
$349 nets you the system with two speakers in a synthetic finish. $399 gets you the system with a high-gloss synthetic; $559 gets you the hand-lacquered walnut version. The sub costs $179.
Axiom’s Web site had not been updated with information about the AudioByte as Macworld posted this article.
