The Open Group
on Monday announced that Mac OS X v10.5 “Leopard” and Leopard Server have both received UNIX 03 product standard certifications.
The Open Group developed the certification to help recognize systems that conform to the latest UNIX product standard. Mac OS X is the first operating system derived from BSD UNIX to meet the certification requirements, according to the group.
Operating systems that achieve the certification conform to a standard set of interfaces to enable back office and other applications to be easily ported between them. Other vendors that offer UNIX 03-certified systems include Fujitsu, IBM, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Sun Microsystems.
The Open Group is a vendor-neutral and technology-neutral consortium.
