Tomb Raider Anniversary is coming to the Mac, courtesy of Feral Interactive. The company has announced plans to release a Macintosh version of the game, and has made it available for pre-order from its Web site.
Inspired by the original Tomb Raider action game, Tomb Raider Anniversary once again puts you in control of adventurer Lara Croft, who’s hired by a powerful syndicate to retrieve a mythical object called the Scion. Croft has to search ancient tombs and isolated spots in Peru, Greece, Egypt and elsewhere as she confronts fearsome guardians and others who covet the precious treasure.
It’s the first Tomb Raider game to appear on the Mac in a few years. The game series was originally brought to the Macintosh by Aspyr Media. This, however, is a new game — while it’s a remake of the original Tomb Raider game first released in the mid-90s, it uses an entirely new graphics engine and some updated game play mechanics.
System requirements indicate that Tomb Raider Anniversary for Mac will initially be released only for Intel Macs (with discrete graphics chips, excluding MacBooks and Mac minis from the list of supported systems), but Feral Interactive notes that a Universal binary update will be made in available sometime “in the new year.”
