Xsilva Systems on Wednesday introduced LightSpeed 2.5, a new version of their Point of Sale (POS) system designed to work on Mac OS X. Priced starting at $749, LightSpeed 2.5 is a free update for users who have a current subscription plan. A 30-day demo is available for download.
LightSpeed helps retail businesses run their business from the Mac. Designed exclusively for the Mac, it features quoting, ordering and invoicing capabilities, credit card processing, can operate as a Web-based e-store, manages customer contact information, integrates with iCal, Google Maps and Voice over IP (VoIP), manages inventory, purchase orders, produces more than 200 reports used for accounting, and much more.
The new 2.5 version is designed to leverage Apple’s iPhone and Mac OS X v10.5 “Leopard.” The new release now uses Leopard’s Cover Flow, for example, to help salespeople or customers find the product or information they need. Retailers can track sales, payments, returns and invoice count for the day, week, month or year, using LightSpeed Stats on their iPhone.
Also new in this release are Multi-Store Transfers, to help retailers with more than one physical location to move stock between them. Also new is a Label Designer that lets you make custom labels, from different sizes to adding logos and changing the graphical layout all together.
System requirements vary for the server and client versions of the software, and depend on whether the Point of Sale screen is being used — for details visit the tech specs Web page.
