In a note sent to customers on Wednesday, Apple thanked users for helping test Boot Camp, but the trial would be ending on December 31, 2007.
“With the introduction of Leopard, the Boot Camp Beta program has ended. The Boot Camp Beta software will expire on December 31, and Apple won’t offer further updates of Boot Camp Beta for Mac OS X Tiger,” Apple said in the note.
Boot Camp is Apple’s software that allows its Intel-based Macs to run Windows. The software prepares a portion of the disk for the installation of the Windows operating system. Users need to restart their computers in order to run Windows under Boot Camp.
In order to install new Boot Camp partitions, you will need to upgrade to Mac OS X Leopard. Existing Boot Camp Tiger partitions that already have Windows installed will continue to work normally.
Update: Clarified that existing Boot Camp partitions would still work after the beta expires.
