on Tuesday released the Macintosh version of Eschalon: Book I, the first installment to their classic role-playing game for Mac, Windows and Linux operating systems. A demo is available for download. The full game costs $27.95 to register (you can buy the game on CD-ROM for $10 more).
Eschalon: Book I harkens to the golden age of computer RPG games; it’s a single-player RPG developed to appeal to fans of “classic” RPG games like Ultima, Might & Magic and Wizardry. It features a tile-built, turn-based game world displayed isometrically on your screen — each move and action is rolled, calculated and statistically determined, according to the developer.
The game features hundreds of items to collect and dozens of creatures, randomly-generated treasure and hidden goodies, character development where you can choose from 24 unique skills and eight base attributes. The game sports a non-linear storyline so you can explore it at your own pace and uncover new elements as you want.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later, 1.8GHz or faster processor and 256MB RAM.
