Telestream has updated its Flip4Mac WMV Components for QuickTime to version 2.2. The new update is ready for download from the Web site; the update is free.
Flip4Mac WMV Components enable Mac users to interact with Windows Media Video (WMV) content using QuickTime. With the basic player software, it enables you to watch video encoded in WMV formats using QuickTime Player, rather than having to rely on additional software. Telestream also offers authoring software that lets you export video in WMV format.
The new release more effectively supports Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard.” It also improves Windows Media playback for more video Web sites and streaming servers. A new JavaScript browser plug-in has been developed that enables users to control playlists.
Intel Mac users gain “significantly faster” encoding speeds in this release — up to 5x faster, according t the developer. Video quality has been improved when encoding two-pass Variable Bit Rate (VBR. Export users can now create Microsoft Silverlight content for the Web.
In addition to the free player, Telestream’s WMV Components encoding software is available starting from $29.
