The gift-giving holidays have passed and, in their wake, left many people with new iPods, iPhones, and Apple TVs. Also likely to top the stocking were the season’s finest DVDs. How cool would it be to make one work with the other?
Very.
In this episode of the Macworld Video I show you exactly how to do that with the free open-source application, HandBrake.

Macworld’s resident Gemmeister, Dan Frakes, offered up this terrific HandBrake overview late in 2006. It’s definitely worth a read. And Rob Griffiths chose HandBrake as a Pick of the Week on Mac OS X Hints last September. Of course, HandBrake was among the top Mac software releases we picked for our annual Editors’ Choice Awards. And considering that HandBrake also won Gem of the Year honors in our Readers’ Choice Awards, some of you seem to think pretty highly of it, too.
During the video I use the just-released DVD of the Beatles’ Help as my test disc. Amazon’s got it for just $20. The movie doesn’t stand the test of time as well as A Hard Day’s Night, but the restoration is good enough that you can clearly see the faint pink hue in the Beatles’ eyes throughout much of the film.
