Data Robotics unveiled a companion product for its Drobo storage device that allows users to share data over a local area network. Dubbed
DroboShare, the $199 product automates network management and lets users add capacity as their needs require.
DroboShare allows the sharing files over a local network with any computer, whether it runs Mac OS, Windows or Linux operating system. Files on the system can also be accessed by home media systems, according to the company.
The product works with
Drobo, Data Robotics’ external USB storage device that offers automated backup. DroboShare can host up to two Drobos for 8TB of storage; Data Robotics says that the system can scale up to 32TB as larger disks become available.
Drobo and DroboShare supports all major file systems, including NTFS, HFS+, EXT3, FAT32. Because the system is based on the Drobo storage system, it can be disconnected from the networking component at any time and be connected directly to a computer.
