Insider Software has updated its font management products, FontAgent, and FontAgent Server, adding new usability and font-search features and support for Mac OS X 10.5.
FontAgent 4.0 has a redesigned interface that includes a customizable toolbar and enhanced search functionality that lets you search for fonts in a variety of ways. Insider has also beefed up the tools for classifying fonts as they are added to your library, including not only foundry, style and weight information, but also slant, weight and proportional metrics.
A new Smart Set feature lets you specify attributes for creating a font set; once you have created the set, newly added fonts that meet the set’s criteria are added to the set as well. FontAgent’s automatic activation support has also been improved, with a feature that suggests matches for missing fonts based on metrics and other font characteristics.
In addition to Leopard compatibility, FontAgent Pro Server 2.5 incorporates support for Active Directory servers, making it easy for network administrators to add existing users to the font server. A new license server lets you maintain and monitor compliance with a font vendor’s licensing terms.
Both FontAgent Pro and the server product are available now, and work with Intel Macs. FontAgent Pro is priced at $100; a Workgroup Edition that lets small workgroups share fonts without a standalone server is $130. FontAgent Pro Server is $1,695; a copy of the Workgroup Edition is required for each client.
