The release of QuickTime 7.4 earlier this month had an unplanned side affect for one of Apple’s biggest developers, Adobe. According to an Adobe product manager the QuickTime release breaks After Effects and Premiere.
“I know you all are probably dying to rent movies from iTunes, but please be aware that the recent QuickTime 7.4 update introduces a serious incompatibility with After Effects and Premiere Pro,” said Michael Coleman, product manager for After Effects on the company blog.
Apparently the issue is with QuickTime’s support of Digital Rights Management technology for downloaded movies in iTunes. QuickTime checks movies at regular intervals for DRM violations and since the Adobe products don’t write the headers until it renders the movies, this is seen as a violation.
The newest release of After Effects does not fix the problem.
Coleman said that Adobe and Apple were working together to fix the problem.
“At this time, we do not recommend QuickTime 7.4 for our customers,” said Coleman.
Representatives from Apple were not immediately available to comment for this story.
