Nikon has unveiled its D60 Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera, coming in February. Pricing was not announced.
The D60 features a compact body not unlike the D40, and has a 10.2 megapixel sensor. It features a 0.18 second startup time and uses a new digital image processor that Nikon calls EXPEED. The D60 features the ability to optimize shadow and highlight detail, and sports a “Retouch Menu” that enables you to edit pictures while they’re still in the camera — doing red-eye correction, trimming and more. A new Stop-Motion Movie mode lets you create stop-motion animation clips by stringing together up to 100 consecutive JPEG files.
The D60 also has an improved dust cleaning function — it shakes any dust or dirt off the sensor, and features an “Airflow Control System” that channels particles away from the sensor every time the shutter is clicked.
The camera uses a 2.5-inch color LCD display and supports Eye-Fi memory cards, which can transfer pictures wirelessly to a Mac or PC. It writes to SD or SDHC memory cards, as well.
The camera will be offered in a kit packaged with a 3x zoom AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens.
