Smith Micro Software on Wednesday announced the release of Internet Cleanup 5.0 for Mac, a new version of its privacy protection software. It costs $29.99, with a free trial version available for download. Upgrades cost $19.99.
Internet Cleanup helps to protect privacy for online users by erasing or obscuring data used by keyloggers and spyware software. It will automatically schedule cleaning, blocks private info from being transmitted, erases Web browser caches, selectively blocks pop-up ads, cookies and Web ads, remotes history files, and more.
New to 5.0 release is a feature called Device Sentry that protects iPods, thumb drives and other USB and FireWire storage peripherals; Bookmark Manager, which synchronizes bookmarks between all Web browsers; Simple File Hider, which protects files; Connection Viewer, which takes control and stops applications from “phoning home” and the ability to e-mail results for scheduled tasks to a specific e-mail address.
The interface has been improved, full support is now provided for Mac OS X v10.5 “Leopard,” 30 new keyloggers and other types of spyware are blocked, Mozilla Thunderbird 2 e-mail is now protected, and more.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4.1 or later. Internet Cleanup 5 is a Universal binary. Upgrades from previous releases cost $19.99.
