FileWave, the network management software for Mac OS X and Windows, now supports Linux. The company has announced support for Red Hat/Fedora-based Linux with both its FileWave Server and FileWave Booster software.
FileWave helps network administrators to manage and distribute software across their networks. You can distribute applications, run installers locally, create customized installation packages, apply packages and updates, modify individual files on the user workstation, and roll back application changes if you discover problems or other issues.
The software employes a client/server architecture and utilizes a “pull” method to manage software distribution. The administrator can schedule distributions to be delivered and installed at specific dates and times to help manage network load or user workstation use; computers running FileWave can also “self-heal,” restoring changes that may have been undone to make sure that software distributions are applied consistently.
FileWave has long supported Windows as a client environment, but up until now has required a Mac for administration. This marks the first time the administration software can operate on Linux.
FileWave indicated that other Linux distributions may be supported based on demand.
