Sharpcast on Thursday introduced SugarSync, a new syncing technology that helps Macs, PCs and mobile devices share digital media. It’s available on a subscription basis with a sliding fee depending on how much storage you need.
SugarSync comprises five components: A sync manager on the Mac or PC that stores files online and keeps different computers up-to-date with the same data; a secure Web site with built-in photo gallery that’s automatically created; a mobile-optimized Web site, with a special version for iPhone and iPod touch users; a mobile phone client app (which works on Windows Mobile, BlackBerry Pearl, Curve and 8800 series phones at the moment) that synchronizes phone images; and a universal contact list.
SugarSync uses “push” sync technology to keep different systems up to date. The system is automatic, according to Sharpcast.
The service is available for 50 percent off (a “founder’s circle” discount) until April 15; a 45-day free trial is available, as well. Normal subscription fees range from $4.99 per month for 10GB of storage to $49.99 per month for 250GB of storage; yearly subscription fees are lower.
Mac system requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4 or later, 256MB RAM, 100MB hard disk space.
