After a couple months trying to cram my 17-inch Macbook Pro in a bag made for a 15-inch machine, and schlepping it to and from work and around the city to various photo shoots, I decided it was time for something new. Spire had a bag that seemed to fit the bill—ample space and protection for my oversized laptop, plenty of pockets for all my extraneous gear, and a bag that was stylish, not too bulky, and easy to carry: the $100 Mojo.
On the outside, the bag has rugged good looks, but an urban feel. Made of ballistic nylon, the bag can handle the day-to-day grind but its fabric is very pliable and easy to clean. The adjustable shoulder strap is padded and grips your shoulder nicely; it avoids the annoying problem of the strap constantly slipping off your shoulder. The Mojo also comes with a removable waist strap, as well as reflective fabric on the front and reflective zipper pulls.
One knock against many computer bags is that they give you room for your laptop and power cords but not much else. The Mojo has more space than many people will ever need. It has four easily-accessible pockets for those items you want to be able to get to without having to open the main flap: a small zippered pocket on the main flap, an iPod pocket on one side that includes a hole for your your headphone cable, a mesh pocket on the other side for a water bottle, and a large flat pocket in back for your papers. Lifting the main flap reveals nine more pockets and four pen sleeves on the front of the bag.
In the main compartment you’ll find a well-padded sleeve that fits a 17-inch Macbook Pro perfectly. There’s also a padded divider that provides an area to store additional papers, as well as a large Velcro strap to ensure that your machine won’t move around in the bag.
Overall, I’ve found the Mojo to be a great solution for my 17-inch Macbook Pro. Gone are the days of trying to figure out which items I won’t have room for in my bag, and I don’t have to worry that my laptop isn’t getting the protection that it needs. The Mojo is perfect for the traveler or anyone schlepping around a 17-inch MacBook Pro with all the extras that we can’t seem to do without these days.
