Friday’s Photoshop Lightroom 1.4.1 update will be a welcome sight for users of Adobe’s digital-imaging workflow product. As Photoshop Lightroom 1.4 users likely know, Adobe removed the 1.4 update from its Web site, after discovering two significant bugs:
- After updating any metadata, all updated original raw files incorrectly displayed a time stamp of 00:00:00; and
- Converting JPEG files from Olympus cameras into other formats resulted in a copy of the image “duplicated within itself, taking up approximately 1/4 of the original image.”
As a result, Adobe advised that users uninstall Photoshop Lightroom 1.4 (and Camera Raw 4.4), reverting back to Photoshop Lightroom 1.3.1 (and Camera Raw 4.3.1). Friday’s update takes care of these woes.
Now let’s turn our attention away from digital photo software and toward utilities. Installing StuffIt 12 may cause Norton AntiVirus 10 to stop working. This happens because NAV 10 requires an older version of a StuffIt framework. StuffIt 12 installs a newer version which NAV 10 cannot use. The preferred solution is to update to NAV 11, which no longer requires any StuffIt software. The alternate solution (which Smith-Micro does not guarantee will succeed) is to use an updater that reinstalls the older framework without deleting the newer one.
