WiebeTech on Monday introduced the UltraDock v4, a new device for technicians, forensic analysts and others who need to hook up a bare hard disk drive to their computer. It costs $199.95.
The latest in WiebeTech’s DriveDock line, the UltraDock is the new high-end model. It connects a bare 3.5-inch IDE/PATA hard disk drive mechanism or a bare 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive to a host Mac or PC through FireWire 400, FireWire 800, USB 2.0 or external SATA (eSATA) interfaces.
The UltraDock powers up the host drive using either a 12v or 5v connector, and sports a recessed on-off switch. The device touts status LEDs that let you know when FireWire or USB are attached, when the disk drive is receiving power and from where.
WiebeTech continues to offer other DriveDock models with different interface options.
