Banana Bee has introduced Denoise 1.0, a utility for reducing noise and suppressing grain in digital photos. Denoise costs $31.
The software lets you drag an image from the Finder or iPhoto, and Denoise will work automatically. The developer said that Denoise helps make photos taken in low light conditions look better, along with those produced by mobile phones, and some scanned images.
Image noise is often produced by digital cameras shooting in low light or at high ISO speed settings; grain can sometimes appear on high-resolution scans of film images, too. Denoise works by distinguishing image detail from noise in “flat” areas in the photo, and smoothing them.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.5 “Leopard.”
