REAL Software on Tuesday announced the release of REALbasic 2008 Release 2, an update to its software development environment for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. A free update for users of REALbasic 2008, the software is priced starting at $100.
REALbasic enables you to develop applications that can run on any of the three operating systems. It’s used for full-fledged application development, rapid application development, prototyping and creation of custom enterprise tools and software.
The new Release 2 continues REAL Software’s goal of making continuous improvement to the software throughout its development cycle. The company counts 200 improvements to REALbasic including the addition of a new class called Pairs. Pairs allow developers to more easily define key/value pairs and define linked lists.
The new release also improves functionality of the introspection feature that was introduced in the last significant update to REALbasic, which occurred in February. Introspection—a common customer request, according to REAL—helps developers use dynamic programming features like serialization for object storing.
