AOL on Tuesday announced the release of new AOL Desktop for Mac software. It’s the first new release of desktop software for Mac AOL users in more than five years.
AOL Desktop for Mac combines mail, messaging and Web browsing capabilities into an integrated application. It features a fast-loading Web browser that uses the same Webkit technology upon which Safari is based, and sports an exclusive new version of AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) that provides capabilities including Buddy Info, AIM Expressions and Buddy Fly Out.
Other new capabilities include fast transfer of AOL Favorites and AOL Mail from Mac OS X personal filing cabinets, icon “tooltips” and a new AOL Support Portal for Mac. Tabbed IM and browsing is also now supported.
AOL continues to offer the “classic” AOL for Mac client, for users who need or want to continue to use it.
System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4.8 or later.
