Thursby Software Systems has announced the release of ADmitMac for CAC, a software tool that enables Macs to communicate with networks that dependent on Common Access Cards (CACs) commonly used in Department of Defense installations.
ADmitMac for CAC uses a single sign-on environment for Windows domains. It works by verifying a CAC against a centralized network authority, and validates that the card and the user have appropriate privileges. It replaces the use of passwords with CAC or PIN security using Kerberos PKINIT.
The new 2.0 release offers formal support for Mac OS X v10.5 “Leopard,” enhances support for Microsoft’s DFS and incorporates an improved deployment utility. The new release now has the ability to configure Kerberos ticket options like expiration and renew time, adds a graphical interface for configuring Workgroup Manager support and auto volume mounting, and also lets you use Microsoft Exchange and Entourage without requiring the use of passwords.
ADmitMac for CAC 2.0 costs $199 per license with volume discounts available. Users with an active support agreement can upgrade for free, as can those who purchased the software after March 1, 2008.
