Equinux has released MediaCentral 2.8, an update to their media control software for Mac OS X. Free for registered users, MediaCentral 2.8 costs €29.95 (US$47.11).
MediaCentral helps to make your Mac the center of a home theater system, offering capabilities that Apple’s Front Row software does not. It can work with CDs, DVDs, digital movies, music and photos, of course, but it also supports IP TV, digital TV, games, Skype Voice over IP (VoIP) capabilities and much more. It also integrates well with the TubeStick, Equinux’s USB 2.0-based TV tuner.
New to the 2.8 release is support for live digital and analog viewing for users who have purchased the TubeStick and are using it in the United States. It now uses the same engine as The Tube, the companion software Equinux developed for its TubeStick TV tuner. as a result, you can use Media Central to access saved locations and view “timeshifted” video content, watch material you’ve recorded using the TubeStick and manage the connection using an Apple Remote. You can also activate closed captioning with the Apple Remote.
System requirements call for a G4/1GHz or faster and Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later.
