Separate from the massive Mac OS X 10.5.3 update released on Wednesday, Apple has also posted individual updates to Logic Express, its software for interpreting raw digital camera data, and security software. The files are available for download from Apple’s Web site.
The Logic Express update, version 8.0.2, “addresses specific customer and compatibility issues,” according to Apple, and is recommended for all Logic Express 8.0 users.
Apple’s Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.1 extends raw file compatibility for Aperture 2 and iPhoto ‘08 to include support for Canon’s EOS Digital Rebel XSi/Kiss Digital x2/450D model; the Epson R-D1; Leaf AFi 5, 6 and 7; Pentax K200D and K20D models.
The security update has been incorporated into the 10.5.3 update, but it’s also available for users who want to apply it separately and distinctly from any operating system updates (it requires Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later). Apple counts more than two dozen changes in this security update — everything from Mail to ruby, the core kernel, Image Capture, iCal, CUPS printing, Pixlet video and more has been updated to improve security.
