The Scorpio Black operates at 7200RPM. It connects to the laptop computer using a Serial ATA (SATA) interface and a 16MB cache. Features of the drive include IntelliSeek—WD’s seek speed optimization technology that helps lower power consumption, noise and vibration; ShockGuard, which helps protect the drive against shocks from daily use; Free-fall Sensor, which detects if the drive is being dropped and helps park the heads off the disks to prevent damage; and WhisperDrive, which WD claims reduces noise.
The Scorpio Black drive comes in 80, 120, 160, 250 and 320GB capacities, and carries a suggested retail price of up to $249 depending on capacity and features. The SATA interface makes it compatible with MacBooks and MacBook Pros.
