Mac users looking for a third-party external webcam to fill the void left when Apple discontinued its external iSight have a new product to consider. Logitech today introduced the QuickCam Vision Pro Webcam for Mac, a USB device that’s compatible with Apple’s iChat, iMovie, and Photo Booth, as well as Skype.
The QuickCam Vision Pro uses a 2-megapixel sensor and is capable of recording video at 720p resolution, as well as shoot 2-megapixel still photos. The webcam has Logitech’s RightLight 2 technology, which, according to Logitech, automatically adjusts the webcam’s settings to produce better pictures in low-light settings of in areas of uneven light.
The webcam uses Carl Zeiss optics and can automatically focus. The QuickCam Vision Pro also has a built-in microphone. An included clip lets you rest the webcam on top of your display.
The QuickCam Vision Pro’s minimum requirements call for an 800MHz G4 Power PC; the camera is compatible with all Intel Macs. Logitech says the webcam works with Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) and OS 10.5 (Leopard).
The webcam sells for $130 and comes with a 2-year warranty.
