Looking for some goofy arcade-style fun? Tommy Twisters on Monday announced the release of Martians vs. Robots, and old-school shoot ‘em up for Mac OS X and other platforms. It costs $19.95, and a playable demo is available for download.
Humans on Earth have wiped themselves out, leaving only their robots behind. Martians are the only ones left in the solar system that can clean up the mess. They’ve got to hurry, because the robots we’ve left behind are consuming all the crystal ore that’s to be found.
The gameplay is modeled after the classic arcade game Asteroids, and includes a single-player game mode and a LAN or Internet multiplayer mode that can support up to 24 players simultaneously. Players experience randomly-generated maps, and you can also build your own maps and share them. Players can participate in collaborative modes by gathering resources and researching new weapons, or can play head-to-head in deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the core and gauntlet modes.
Technology trees help you build up your weapons and defenses, with multiple ships for each side and an arsenal of weapons to choose from like homing missiles, cloaking shields, teleporters and more.
System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
