Editor’s note: The following review is part of Macworld’s Summer of Mac Gems series. Each business day until the middle of August 2008, the Macworld staff will use the Mac Gems blog to briefly cover a favorite free or low-cost program. Visit the Mac Gems homepage for a list of past Mac Gems.
When you rip movies from your personal DVD collection for your iPhone or Apple TV, you could tag them manually with a program such as Lostify. But why not save yourself some data entry with MetaX 2.4.5 , which connects any of six different Amazon.com country stores as well as the tagChimp community-generated tagging site.
Drag an MPEG-4 video into MetaX’s search box, wait for it to return results, then pick the one you like and tell the software to write the tags—it can even send the new files to iTunes when you’re done.
You can include poster or DVD cover art or pick a frame from the movie to set as artwork, connect to a movie’s IMDb page directly, name chapters, and much more. It’s an invaluable tool if you plan to put your DVD collection on your Apple TV.
