Data Robotics on Tuesday launched the second generation of Drobo, the company’s storage product. Among the new features is the addition of FireWire 800 for faster read and speeds.
In addition to FireWire 800, Data Robotics said they also improved the speed of the USB 2.0 connection. The new units also include an an upgraded core processor and optimized firmware.
According to Data Robotics, the new Drobo “addresses the needs of any user seeking a reliable method of managing vast amounts of data without sacrificing performance; from video editors, to heavy down-loaders, to photographers who shoot raw images.”
Other Drobo features include Redundant data protection, hot expansion up to 16TB and the ability to take advantage of mix and match drive capacities.
Drobo is priced at $499. A 2TB version costs $899, and a 4TB version is available for $1,299.
