Apple Thursday released an update to the Apple TV software that adds support for MobileMe and the new free Remote application available from the App Store.
In addition to changing all references to .Mac to MobileMe, the update adds a new Wish List feature, letting you add various movies to a Wish List. Once there are items in the Wish List, a Wish List option appears at the top of the Movies menu.
The update takes the Apple TV to version 2.1 and is available from the Apple TV’s General Settings menu.
Apple has also made numerous improvements to security in the Apple TV 2.1 update. Full details have been posted to Apple’s Web site.
Apple has removed exploits in the handling of data reference atoms, the parsing of “crgn” atoms and the parsing of “chan” atoms that could cause buffer overflows — the security improvements prevent maliciously crafted movie files from leading to unexpected application termination or arbitrary code executions.
Apple has also improved URL handling for QuickTime content, closed a heap buffer overflow problem with QuickTime content, and prevented an issue with maliciously crafted PICT images from affecting the Apple TV.
