Among the many differences between the launch of the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G was one unpleasant surprise for those who didn’t live in close proxmity to an Apple or AT&T store: the iPhone 3G would not be sold online. Now it appears AT&T is relaxing that rule for some of its business customers.
In order to take advantage of the offer, customers must be employees of a business that is signed up with AT&T’s Premier Enterprise program. Eligible users can then purchase the iPhone 3G through the Premier Online Store, and have it delivered to them; the store is current quoting estimated delivery times of 7-10 business days for all models. Phones purchased through the Premier store still require a two year commitment to AT&T.
The Premier program is available to small, medium, and large businesses, as well as government agencies and higher education institutions. Small businesses can sign up for an agreement online, while other corporations and institutions are encouraged to contact an AT&T specialist.
Non-business consumers are still required to visit an Apple or AT&T store, sign up for a two-year contract, and have the phone activated in store to acquire an iPhone 3G.
