Apple on Tuesday released QuickTime 7.5.5 and Front Row 2.1.6. Both updates are available for download from the Software Update system preference.
Both updates are required for the iTunes 8 software, also released on Tuesday. iTunes 8 adds new browsing features to iTunes, a new “Genius” capability that offers suggestions for music that complements what you’re listening to, and the ability to download and watch HD television shows, now available for purchase for $2.99 per episode.
QuickTime 7.5.5 is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users, and includes changes that increase reliability, improve application compatibility and enhance security, according to Apple.
Front Row 2.1.6 provides improved iTunes 8.0 compatibility and bug fixes.
Apple has also identified security-related changes in the QuickTime 7.5.5 release. The update fixes a problem involved with maliciously crafted QuickTime VR (QTVR) movies, solves memory corruption issues involved with handling STSZ atoms in movie files and H.264 encoded movie files, and corrects a problem with maliciously crafted PICT images that could lead to unexpected application termination.
