Magma on Thursday announced that Digidesign has approved its ExpressBox7 PCI Express expansion system for use with Pro Tools HD systems. The ExpressBox7 is priced starting at $2,799.
Power to individual card slots can be turned off and on without powering down the entire system, and the host controller card is a low-profile model that doesn’t obstruct other cards or slots. The ExpressBox7 supports peer-to-peer transfers between cards in slots, and can accommodate optional redundant power supplies to share load during normal operation and operate as a backup in the event of a power supply failure.
Pro Tools HD is Digidesign’s professional Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) used in music studios, post production and broadcast facilities, edit suites and mobile production environments. It combines virtual instrument and sound processing plug-in software with Digital Signal Processor (DSP) cards and audio input/output interfaces.
Magma’s ExpressBox7 Web page still indicated “Digidesign qualification pending” as Macworld posted this article, but a press release from Magma confirms that the qualification has been done.
