Smith Micro Software on Wednesday announced the launch of StuffIt Deluxe 2009, a new version of the file compression and archive software for Mac OS X. It costs $79.99; upgrades cost $29.99.
StuffIt is the long-running compression software tool for the Mac. In fact, this edition marks the software’s 20th year, according to the developer. It’s used to compress and archive files and folders, and can compress image files and Microsoft Office documents without reducing quality.
New features in StuffIt Deluxe 2009 include QuickLook and Time Machine support for Leopard users. MobileMe support has been added — StuffIt Deluxe can automatically transfer and back up archives to MobileMe using DropStuff and StuffIt Scheduler. Duplicate folding is also new — StuffIt Deluxe will only store a single copy of duplicate items within archives.
You can customize DropStuff using Profile and Desktop droplets for different workflows. Support has also been added for Google’s MacFUSE. 7-Zip and segmented Zip archives are now supported. Compressors have been optimized, and more.
System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4 or later. Some features require Mac OS X 10.5.
