Prosoft Engineering on Tuesday announced the release of Drive Genius 2.1, an update to their hard drive management software. A free update for registered 2.x users, Drive Genius 2.1 costs $99.
Drive Genius helps you manage, maintain and optimize your hard drive. You can defragment files and combine free space into one contiguous block, which can improve performance. It also allows you repartition your hard drive on the fly without having to reformat or lose data.
New to the 2.1 release is “DriveSlim,” which lets you scan your hard drives for files that you can delete. You can find all duplicate files, for example, and delete unnecessary copies while making aliases to replace them. Or you can trim unnecessary foreign language support, trim applications to only support new Intel-based Macs, and back up files that you have marked for deletion.
System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later, 256MB RAM, 1.0GHz or faster processor.
