Electronic Arts (EA) on Monday announced the development of two new expansion packs for its hit game Spore, released in September for the Mac and Windows. A Space stage expansion pack and Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack are both on tap.
Spore is the latest “virtual life” game from SimCity and The Sims creator Will Wright. In Spore, you oversee the creation and evolution of a creature from a single-celled organism living in protoplasmic muck all the way to its ascension to a creature with a backbone, wielding tools, eventually creating a civilization and flying off into outer space, where it can interact with other Spore creations.
The Space stage expansion pack won’t be out until Spring, 2009. But once it’s released, Spore gamers who reach the Space level will be able to do more with them, such as beaming down from their spaceships to explore new planets, and earn rewards for completing missions. An “Adventure Creator” will let players build and share custom missions with each other.
The Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack is coming on November 18, 2008. More than 100 new creature-building components are included, themed into two styles: Cartoonesque creatures and monster creatures. Body parts, paint options, animations, backgrounds and other content are included.
Spore is available for $49.99 and ships in a single package for both Mac and Windows users. A free trial version of Spore Creature Creator, a limited-version game featuring the creature designing elements in the full game, is available for download.
