Following an extensive public beta test, DisplayLink has announced the release of DisplayLink Windows 1.0 drivers for Mac OS X. The 1.0 driver is available for download now.
DisplayLink technology enables specially-equipped displays and display adapters to communicate with a Mac or Windows PC using USB instead of a traditional monitor interface like DVI or VGA. This way, you can set up a multi-monitor system on a computer with limited expansion capabilities.
DisplayLink licenses its technology to a variety of manufacturers; you can buy DisplayLink-equipped monitors and monitor interfaces from vendors including Asus, LG, EVGA, Samsung and many others.
Compared with the beta driver release that preceded it, the 1.0 driver features improved 2D performance, improved stability and bug-fixes, better compatibility with Parallels Desktop, and improved support for Fast User Switching. DisplayLink advises that the 1.0 driver still lacks OpenGL-based 3D graphics acceleration, and color calibration doesn’t work on DisplayLink-enabled monitors, either. The driver works with all current DisplayLink-enabled USB graphics devices, according to the release notes.
System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later and an Intel-based Mac.
