Rogue Amoeba Software on Monday announced the release of Fission 1.6, an update to their audio editing software for Mac OS X. A free update for registered users, Fission costs $32.
Fission enables you to edit MP3, AAC, Apple Lossless and AIFF audio files. You can copy, paste and trim audio, split files, edit ID3 metadata tags, adjust gain and more.
Fission 1.6 now lets you save iPhone ringtones using almost any audio file supported by QuickTime as the source. You open your file in Fission, crop it down to 40 seconds or less, then select Save as iPhone Ringtone. Fission then passes the file to iTunes. The next time iTunes syncs with the iPhone, the ringtone is installed.
Fission requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
